Our approach to AI

Your ideas. Your words. Your creative direction. KDP Ready and Living Well Books are built around human authorship. Where an automated tool is used, we say what it does before you choose it.

What stays human-created

  • In KDP Ready's default author service, we do not use AI to generate your manuscript text.
  • We do not use AI to generate colouring-book illustrations or interior artwork for your book.
  • We do not use AI to generate puzzles, activities, prompts, exercises or other original book content for your book.
  • We do not invent passages, examples, facts, arguments or claims, and we never rewrite your work without your approval.

Production tools we may use

  • The KDP Converter, Cover Converter and Safe-Zone Fixer resize, measure and check files — trim size, bleed, margins and safe zones. They do not invent or add book content.
  • Light copy-edit suggestions (removing “um”, repeated words, capital letters) are simple rules, not AI. They never add words, and you accept or reject each one.

Speak Your Book

  • Your spoken ideas and words are the source of your manuscript.
  • Automated speech-to-text (the open Whisper speech-recognition model) is an AI tool. It runs in your own browser, so your audio is not sent to an outside AI service. It only turns your speech into text; it does not write or expand anything. You see and edit every transcript.
  • Because speech recognition is an AI tool, we do not label an automated transcript “non-AI”. Review Amazon's guidance on how to treat it.
  • For a strictly human-created manuscript, you can type your book yourself, or choose human transcription by a person — coming soon. Email hello@kdpready.co.uk to register interest.

Where you opt in or out

  • Covers and bespoke books can be made in three different ways, and you choose which one: fully hand-created; hand-made with AI assistance used only to trim and final-format the files for KDP; or we can draw on AI to help create the book.
  • AI-generated artwork is never the default. It is only used if you explicitly choose it, and we tell you exactly which parts will be AI-generated before you do.
  • Optional image tools that use AI (such as the drawing-to-page sample and AI cover repair or extension options) are clearly labelled where they appear and only run when you press their button.
  • We are transparent about how AI is used at every step, so you always know which parts of your book are hand-made and which, if any, are AI-assisted.

How AI-generated elements are identified

  • Any AI-generated element you opt into is labelled in the tool and recorded against your project.
  • Amazon KDP requires you to disclose AI-generated images, including cover artwork. Our AI-content checklist helps you review Amazon's current questions, but the disclosure decision is yours.

You approve the final files

  • You review and approve every chapter, the whole manuscript and the final files before anything is prepared for upload.
  • “Prepared for KDP submission” is not approval by Amazon. Amazon makes its own publishing decisions, and we cannot promise acceptance, sales, rankings or royalties.
  • Your recordings and manuscripts are never used to train models or to create other people's books.
